OSRS Pandemonium Quest Guide: How to Unlock Early Sailing Training

Nov-24-2025 PST

The Pandemonium quest in Old School RuneScape introduces players to the fundamentals of sailing, ship navigation, and early port-to-port tasks. If you’d rather avoid guessing your way through the process, this step-by-step guide walks you through the quest from start to finish, explaining each mechanic so you can complete it smoothly and unlock your very first boat. For those looking to speed up their progress or unlock better equipment faster, you might want to buy OSRS gold to stock up on resources and upgrades, making your adventure even easier.

1. Starting the Quest in Port Sarim

To begin, head to Port Sarim, right next to the new quest icon by the docks. You’ll see Anne and Will standing at the start location. Speak to them and spacebar through the dialogue to accept the Pandemonium quest. When prompted with the option “I guess I’m ready,” click it to board your ship and begin the sailing sequence.

Once aboard, you’ll encounter a bit more dialogue-again, feel free to skip it by tapping spacebar. When control returns to you, click on the ship’s helm to start navigating.

2. Learning to Navigate Your Ship

Anne and Will will instruct you to head south, aiming for a point east of the Shipyard. Navigation is simple: click in the direction you want the ship to move, and your character will steer automatically.

While sailing, keep an eye out for gusts of wind that occasionally appear on your sails. When you see one:

· Click the gust

· Earn Sailing XP

· Gain a temporary speed boost

Using these gusts efficiently helps you reach the destination faster while padding your early XP gains.

Enjoy the scenery as you travel-terns circling overhead, waves rolling by-but stay alert for wind prompts to maximize progress.

3. Arriving at the Destination and Salvaging

Once you reach the marker, click “Unset Sails” to stop your ship. Your next task is to deploy your salvaging hook. Interact with it to dredge up some items, but don’t get too comfortable-you’ll be tossed off the ship shortly after.

You’ll wake up on the Pandemonium shoreline, where your adventure continues.

4. Meeting the Residents: Steve, Ribs, and More

You’ll first encounter Squawking Steve Beanie, who will deliver a frantic introduction to the island’s situation. As usual, you can spacebar through the dialogue. After that, speak to Ribs, then return to Steve.

Choose the second dialogue option:
“Do you have any idea where Will and Anne may have gone?”

Proceed through the conversation, and you’ll be transported to the Shipyard.

5. Building Your Cargo Hold

When you arrive, click the gangplank to re-enter your ship. At the construction hotspot, choose “Build Facility” and select the Basic Cargo Hold. This is a key mechanic for transporting goods during and after the quest.

Once built, disembark via the gangplank and exit through the Shipyard portal.

You’ll meet Junior Jim next-talk with him, then head back to your ship.

6. Returning to Port Sarim

Board your boat again and use the helm to sail straight north, returning around the coastline until you reach Port Sarim. Once close to the docks:

· Click “Unset Sails”

· Disembark

· Speak to the Port Master

When prompted, take your cargo (ensure your hands are empty), then return to your ship, quick-deposit the cargo into your new cargo hold, and sail back south to the Pandemonium.

7. Delivering the Cargo and Completing the Quest

When you arrive, open your cargo hold, remove the crate, and deposit it at the Ledger Table. This grants 100 Sailing XP.

Speak to Junior Jim again, then to Squawking Steve.

And that’s it-quest complete! You now have:

· Your own boat

· Level 5 Sailing

· Access to early Port Tasks

8. What to Do After the Quest

With your new ship, inspect the Notice Board at the Pandemonium docks. You can now pick up delivery tasks between Pandemonium and Port Sarim for additional XP, which is a great way to progress early without spending resources or worrying about gear-especially helpful if you’re saving your cheap OSRS gold for other upgrades. Claim a task, board your ship, and sail out-your Sailing journey has officially begun. Have fun exploring the new content, mastering ship mechanics, and leveling this exciting new skill!
