OSRS Knight's Sword Walkthrough
Sep-09-2025 PST
This guide will walk you through everything you need to know about The Knight's Sword: requirements, items needed, quest steps, rewards, and helpful tips to get it done efficiently.
Why Do The Knight's Sword?
The standout reason to complete The Knight's Sword is the Smithing experience reward. Completing the quest gives 12,725 Smithing XP, which can boost you from level 1 to level 29 Smithing instantly. That massive jump saves you both time and money, since early Smithing training is usually slow and resource-intensive.
Beyond the XP, the quest also introduces you to some important lore and NPCs in the kingdom of Asgarnia. It's one of the earliest quests that new accounts are advised to tackle once they have basic combat survivability and access to Varrock, Falador, and Lumbridge.
Quest Requirements
Unlike many mid- to late-game quests, The Knight's Sword has no official skill or quest requirements. However, it does require a bit of exploration, some combat avoidance, and gathering materials. A few items may need higher-level help if you're a fresh account.
Recommended:
At least 10-15 combat levels (to handle aggressive ice warriors and ice giants during the blurite ore retrieval).
Completion of the quest "Goblin Diplomacy" is not required, but some players do it beforehand since they often interact with the Falador/Varrock area at similar levels.
Items Required
You'll need to gather or purchase the following items before starting:
Redberry pie - You can buy this from Romily Weaklax in the Cooks' Guild (if you have 32 Cooking and access), or from other players on the Grand Exchange. Alternatively, you can make it by cooking redberries with pastry dough.
2 Iron bars - Easily purchased on the Grand Exchange or smelted yourself (requires level 15 Smithing). You can also buy OSRS gold to get them.
Blurite ore - Obtained during the quest (cannot be bought beforehand).
Redberries - If you plan to make your own redberry pie. Found near Varrock or south of the Mining Guild.
Pickaxe - Required to mine blurite ore.
Teleportation runes/items - To move between Varrock, Falador, and Lumbridge efficiently (Varrock teleport and Falador teleport recommended).
Combat gear, food, and armor - For navigating the dangerous Ice Cavern.
Starting the Quest
To begin The Knight's Sword quest, speak with Squire Asrol in the White Knights' Castle in Falador. The castle is located in the center of Falador, and Asrol is found in the courtyard near the castle entrance.
The Squire will explain that he accidentally lost Sir Vyvin's ceremonial sword. Since it's an heirloom and highly valuable, you'll need to find a replacement before Sir Vyvin notices. He directs you to an expert swordsmith named Reldo for guidance.
Step-by-Step Walkthrough
Step 1: Speak with Reldo
Reldo is located in the Varrock Palace library, just south of the Varrock teleport location.
Ask him about making swords. Reldo will eventually mention an Imcando dwarf named Thurgo, who might be able to help.
Step 2: Meet Thurgo
Thurgo lives south of Port Sarim, on a peninsula near Mudskipper Point.
Bring a redberry pie with you-Thurgo loves redberry pie and won't help you unless you give him one.
After handing over the pie, ask Thurgo about making swords. He'll say he needs to see the original sword to create a replica.
Step 3: Get a Picture of the Sword
Return to the White Knights' Castle and speak to the Squire. He suggests checking Sir Vyvin's room for a picture of the sword.
Go upstairs in the castle until you reach Sir Vyvin's quarters. Search the cupboard inside to find a portrait of the sword.
Be careful: sometimes Sir Vyvin is inside the room. If he is present, wait for him to leave before searching the cupboard.
Step 4: Bring the Picture to Thurgo
Take the portrait back to Thurgo. He'll agree to help forge the sword if you bring him two iron bars and a blurite ore.
Step 5: Retrieve Blurite Ore
Now comes the most dangerous part of the quest. Head to the Ice Cavern, located south of Thurgo's house near Mudskipper Point.
Inside the cavern, you'll find aggressive ice warriors and ice giants. They can hit fairly hard for low-level players, so bring food, armor, and avoid combat when possible.
Mine at least one blurite ore from the blurite rocks inside. (Pro tip: mine 2-3 ores in case you fail later or want extras for future use.)
Teleport out quickly once you've mined the ore to avoid unnecessary damage.
Step 6: Forge the Sword
Return to Thurgo with the blurite ore and 2 iron bars. He'll use them to craft a blurite sword for you.
Step 7: Deliver the Sword
Take the sword back to the Squire at the White Knights' Castle. He'll be relieved and thank you for saving him from Sir Vyvin's wrath. Quest complete!
Rewards
For completing The Knight's Sword, you'll receive:
1 Quest Point
12,725 Smithing XP
A massive boost to your Smithing level (often from 1 to 29 in one quest) and get some OSRS gold.
Tips for Success
Bring extra food when mining blurite ore. The ice warriors and giants are aggressive to low- and mid-level players. Lobsters or swordfish are recommended for players under level 30 combat.
Mine extra blurite ore. Although you only need one, extras can be useful for re-obtaining a blurite sword or completing collection log goals.
Use teleports wisely. Varrock, Falador, and Port Sarim are spread out. Teleports save time and make the quest much smoother.
Low-level survival trick: If you're struggling in the Ice Cavern, bring a teleport tab or runes ready to escape after you grab the ore.
Profit potential: After completing the quest, some players craft blurite swords for fun or to show off, but they have no major economic value. The real value is the Smithing XP.
Why The Knight's Sword Is a Must-Do Quest
The Knight's Sword is one of those quests that nearly every OSRS player remembers fondly because of how impactful it is early on. Instead of spending hours smelting bronze bars and crafting daggers, you can jump straight to level 29 Smithing and start working with steel.
For ironmen, the quest is even more critical. The Smithing XP boost accelerates your ability to create useful gear and train efficiently. Even for main accounts, saving money and time on early Smithing is invaluable.
It's a short quest, requires very little combat, and gives one of the largest XP payouts in the early game. That combination makes it one of the most efficient quests in OSRS and a staple of most players' early-game progression.
Final Thoughts
The Knight's Sword remains one of the classic OSRS quests, beloved for its simple yet rewarding design. Whether you're a new adventurer stepping foot in Gielinor for the first time, or a seasoned player rushing through early quests on a fresh account, this quest is a rite of passage.
With nothing more than a redberry pie, two iron bars, and some bravery in the Ice Cavern, you can walk away with nearly 13,000 Smithing XP and a huge step forward in your account's progression.
So if you haven't already completed The Knight's Sword, grab your pickaxe, bake that pie, and prepare to mine some blurite ore-the future of your Smithing journey begins here.
